Highlands County Lakes

The table below includes most of the lakes in Highlands County.  Lakes with an asterisk (*) by the name have a public access boat ramp and lakes that are highlighted and underlined have links to water quality data summaries and Bathymetric maps.  Unless otherwise indicated, water quality summaries are based on data collected through the Florida LAKEWATCH program - including all data available from 1986 through December 2002.  There is a direct link to the relevant LAKEWATCH site, listing water quality and aquatic plant data and including bathymetric maps, within the page of each lake for which water quality data has been collected.  Photos are also included for many of the highlighted lakes.

The Highlands County Lakes Association is our local citizen group organized to protect the lakes of our County.  A number of individual lakes also have their own associations, including: Lake August, Lake Carrie, Lake Charlotte, Lake Clay, Lake Damon, Lake Henry, Lake Huntley, Lake Jackson, Lake June, Lake Istokpoga, Lake Letta, Lake Lotela, Lake Josephine, and Lake Persimmon.  Please contact our office at 402-6545 for more information about any of these organizations.

Please click here to visit the Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plant site at the University of Florida to learn more about aquatic plant issues.  If you would like to remove aquatic plants from your shoreline please call the Department of Environmental Protection in Bartow (863-534-7074) to find out what you can and cannot do BEFORE you remove the plants.
